    How Does Neurofeedback Work?

Neurofeedback works by intercepting and offering you direct feedback on your brain activity. It's a highly personalized way to train the brain and improve performance.

    1. First we measure your brain activity - Electrical signals generated in the brain can reflect your current mental state. The Myndlift software uses EEG to measure this brain activity in real time.
    2. Next we seek to understand your brain - Myndlift separates the raw brain activity into distinct brainwaves that may be associated with a particular mental state. For example, alpha brainwaves usually signify a relaxed state.
    3. Then, get a personalized brain training plan - Your Neuro Coach creates a custom neurofeedback protocol based on your brain activity and goals, such as increasing alpha brainwaves and reducing high beta brainwaves.
    4. Do fun Brain Training Sessions - Train your brain by playing specialized games, watching videos, or streaming shows on your device. When your brainwaves are in the target range, you will advance in the game or have a crisper viewing experience. This real-time monitoring and rewarding is known as operant conditioning.
    5. Practice for Best Results - By training consistently over time, operant conditioning can retrain your brain activity, optimize your mental state, and have implications for improved focus, reduced anxiety, and more.

There are 700+ peer-reviewed studies using neurofeedback in the scientific literature, with demonstrated efficacy in attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), addiction and more.

  • FAQ's about Neurofeedback Brain Training

    What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is like exercise for your brain! It’s a form of neurotherapy that helps train your brainwaves to reach a healthier, more balanced state. Using EEG technology, it monitors your brainwave activity and provides real-time feedback through videos or games, helping you regulate and improve brain function over time.

    Is Neurofeedback invasive?

No. Neurofeedback is completely non-invasive. During sessions, sensors (electrodes) are gently placed on your scalp to measure brainwave activity – nothing goes into your body.

    Is Neurofeedback safe?

Yes, it’s very safe. Neurofeedback is an evidence-based therapy that’s been used for decades and is known for having little to no side effects.

    Are there any side effects?

Most people experience no side effects. Occasionally, you might feel mildly tired after a session – similar to how you might feel after a good mental workout – but this is temporary.

    How does a session work?

You’ll wear a Muse headset with optional external electrodes. While watching videos or playing games, the system provides feedback in real time, helping your brain learn when it’s in a calm, focused state. Over time, this helps you retrain your brain to function more optimally.

    What can Neurofeedback help with?

Neurofeedback has been used to support individuals with:

    • ADHD
    • Anxiety
    • Addiction recovery
    • Concussions and traumatic brain injuries (TBI)
    • Stress and sleep issues

    How long is a session?

Each session typically lasts 20–30 minutes. A full program usually includes 30–40 sessions for best results.

What do I need to start training?

To begin your neurofeedback journey, you’ll need:

    • A Muse headset (with electrode and conductive paste)
    • A phone or tablet
    • Internet connection
